Life is a strange thing.

A series of intertwined moments, thoughts, feelings and experiences that go together to make up who we are. Some are fleeting, perhaps passing by in the blink of an eye. Others take longer to play out, perhaps lasting minutes, hours or even days before they are committed to memory. Whichever form taken, each moment, and how we 'live' it is unique. On occasion we may get a second chance, but it is never quite the same, changed by the intervening moments.

skitz.org is meant to record some of these moments that would either have been lost or overwritten, or that just might not have been quite right first time round. The words here will not change lives, the photos will not win awards. They are simply here as a cathartic, narcissistic reminder of things relevant to the author, which may have little relevance to anyone else.

Oh, and don't worry about life, your not going to survive it anyway...

Software

Graphics were rendered using Adobe Photoshop 7 and Macromedia Fireworks 4.0. Text was written with either notepad or vim. CMS is Movable Type 3.2 with custom PHP. It works in IE6+, but we prefer Firefox.

This is held together by Apache, Perl, MySQL, lots of coffee, a dash of luck, a little black magic and virgin sacrifice (501 errors are blamed on decreasing number of quality virgins). It is backed up by f-secure, GFILanguard and MBSA amongst others.

Mail is handled by MailEnable.

Hardware

The software runs on a 450Mhz Intel PII, 256MB RAM tower PC with no case, no monitor and a few loose screws. This lives in a small cupboard with no light, on top of a hill in west London between tubes lines, train tracks and tarmac. It is connected to the outside world via a 3Com switch, an SMC router, a fair amount of Cat 5e cable and an ADSL service provided by Demon.

The Domain name was purchased from UKReg.com and the DNS NS records are stored courtesy of Zoneedit.com.

skitzware

skitz currently resides in a room on a floor below the cupboard, which he shares with his girlfriend Sally and dragon Eddie - the room not the cupboard. He writes, draws and takes photographs for no other reason than he enjoys it, although wishes he was good enough to quit his day job and do any of the above for a living. In his day job he plays with computers, network devices and electricity. When not here, skitz can be found elsewhere or entertaining himself by taking photos and writing about them in the third person. Other little bits of skitz can be found at Blogger, Livejournal or Technorati, if you like that sort of thing.
