Scratch

Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.

Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.

On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.

Genetic Engineering

Sitting down over dinner in a crowded restuarant in Cornwall, the conversation turned briefly to genetic engineering. Whilst discussing the merits of mixed seafood platters, organic salmons and genetically modified fruit, there came the revelation that scientists had succeeded in creating "lemmings without hips".

I nodded sagely at this before looking perplexed as to why scientists would want to do this. Lemmings have enough trouble in life without being born hipless, and surely scientists have better things to do than create hiply deficient (or is that unhip?) rodents. When I asked for some more details, I received a blank look followed by a slow and articulate "lemons without pips".

Ah.
