Scratch
Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.
Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.
On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.
Careless Talk?
Today I am reminded that the old adage careless talk costs lives still has some good mileage in it. In fact, given todays society where technology allows for the dissemination and proliferation of information at the speed of light, it probably is more apt than ever.
Whilst it is humouress to watch people screw up their lives big style (and I won't even mention Dan Quayle), technological developments now mean that not only does careless talk and typing cost jobs and relationships, but it could possibly start WW3. Given Mr George W's grasp of American (I'm sorry, I refuse to use the word "English" in the same context as GWB's mouth), I fear for the future. I would have more faith if Homer J Simpson were President of the USA.
Of course people shamelessly abuse this, and care needs to be taken to avoid the deluge of crap you are neither interested in, can see any justification in or can escape from - I'm looking at you Paris Hilton. In fact special care needs to be taken to avoid things that cannot be unseen (not particularly safe for work.)
It is inherent that careless talk not only costs lives, reputations and sanity but can be brought about without you ever clicking or speaking. By the time you realise what is happening its too late. Just think before you click (nsfw).
