The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night time
Mark Haddon

Told through the eyes of a 15 year old with Asperger's Syndrome, 'the curious incident of the dog in the night-time opens with Christopher Boone stumbling across a dead dog in his neighbours garden. Inspired by his favorite fictional character Sherlock Holmes, he begins a murder investigation, that takes him beyond his world in his quest for the truth.
As originally written for kids, the language is simple, but that only makes Christopher's voice more powerful. The way he acts, speaks and communicates with others help the reader gauge to some degree what it must be life to see the world through his emotionally dissociated mind. Throughout the book, little statistics, diagrams and drawings are scattered, re-enforcing his character, and emphasising his highly intelligent nature, but also his inability to relate to the emotions and nuances of others. As a reader you are able to piece the parts together long before Christopher, and this only adds to the emotional attachment you develop for the character as you begin to see the inevitable outcome looming on the horizon as sadness and bleak comedy are mixed with precision.
All in all an original, witty and thought provoking book.
