Scratch

Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.

Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.

On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.

Accessibility and Validation

Recently I have been working on Accessibility and Validation, trying to make choices between aesthetics and functionality/usability. Needless to say I am not doing brilliantly. As the site has grown over time, I have added and added on what is dubious foundations. Coding habit usually makes me name functions in the form of doSomethingInteresting but unfortunatley XHTML requires all lowercase which is a bit inconvenient.

Then theres Bobby and the 508 guidelines to contend with.

I suppose most of the problem relates to the main menu system, the fact that it relies heavily on javascript, and the alt tags required look a bit messy for blank spacers.

Suppose I'm gonna have to bite the bullit and ditch it. Afterall, you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

*Edit 15/04/2005: I appear to have successfully sorted this all out over at EDTV, so perhaps it mightn't be as troublesome as I thought.
