Scratch
Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.
Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.
On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.

In the future, the world will be run by giant American Corporations. Everbody will be so happy, tax-free and rich that they will change their name to that of their company.
Hack Nick, however, is a lowly Merchandising Officer with negative career equity. In the futre, this is not a good thing.
So when John Nike and John Nike offer Hack Nike a job marketing a new line of really, really expensive trainers he is understandably thrilled. He is less thrilled when he discovers that his duties include shooting teenagers.
The story is set in a 'fictious' future where major corporations (e.g. Nike, McDonalds) rule the US (which includes the UK and Australia), and where the Government is sidelined, money can literally get you anything and each and every individual takes the name of the company they work for.
The plot takes the Corporate politics that exist today and extrapolates to a plausible future where in the midst of competition between the two remaining Customer Loyalty Progreammes, a real killer marketing campaign for the latest pair of trainers is launched. As events unfold, we follow eponymous heroine Jennifer Government as she tries to do her job, dodging the bullets of both The Police and the NRA whilst getting exacting revenge on her ex, John Nike.
The novel itself was an easy and enjoyable read, but I felt the characters, whilst interesting lacked the depth to really empathise with them. Read it for the stylised setting and the take on corporate America.
