Scratch

Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.

Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.

On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.

Supermarket Layouts. Discuss

After about three years of shopping at the same branch of Sainsbury's I have, or rather had, my pattern down to a tee. I could remember exactly where the things I wanted were located, and with a bit of forethought, I could be in and out in under 5 minutes with enough shopping for two/three days, checkoutstaff permitting. Occasionally the odd item or maybe even an aisle would swap, but this would be a relatively easy to accomodate.

Upon entering the shop this morning for the first time in a week I noticed two things. First, upped the wattage on the lighting which made everything look shinnier and brighter. Essentially though this didn't matter becuase even if I wasn't blinded, they had moved all the shelves about and I couldn't find anything anyway. I first noticed this as I went to pick up some chicken to find myself looking at brillo pads.

20 minutes later I gave up trying to orientate myself and admitted defeat, leaving with about half the items I needed, and resigning myself to weeks of milling aimlessly on the whim of a shop 'designer' who says by putting halibut next to chocolote my visit spend will be 3p greater...

I feel this doesn't qualify as a barhumbug situation. More a bar-stards situation...
