Scratch
Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.
Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.
On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.
James Blish

James Blish's masterwork, originally published in four volumes, explores a future built on two crucial discoveries; antigravity devices - 'spindizzies' - which allow whole cities to lifted from the Earth to become giant spaceships, and longevity drugs which enable their inhabitants to live for thousands of years. As Earth stagnates, one by one the cities depart to the stars, leading to the establishment of a unique Galactic empire.
Literally a galaxy and time spanning epic, which is an enjoyable read, although I will admit at times the science and physics became a bit overwhelming. The concepts are thought provoking and the social commentary although dated, is interesting for that very reason.
