Scratch
Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.

On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.

An average sequel, filled with a talented cast, that just doesn't quite make it. Combining the eco theme of Dr Doolittle 2, the hoards of animals from Dr Doolittle 2/Ace Ventura's 1&2, Morgan Freeman and Steve Carell from Bruce Almighty and not a drop of Jim Carrey being rubberfaced/zaney Ace Ventura 1&2/Bruce Almighty/any of the majority of Jim Carrey films/etc. Whilst I left the film thinking it was better than the original, I am now not so sure. I think it was just the novelty of seeing someone other than Carrey/Eddie Murphy in their stereotypical roles, but in reality, that doesn't make the film better. This wasn't aided by John Goodman not being that menacing as a menacing person should be, but this was somewhat counter balanced by Wanda Sykes excelling as Rita, Evan's PA.
Saying that, the CGI animals were good, and it did have llamas in. The script, somewhat predictable in places, and saccharine in others, does highlight some moral bits, such as environmental awareness, faith, family and simple acts of kindness, and if you like any of the movies mentioned above, it should appeal as harmless fun.9 Jul 2007 7:01 | (0) comments | Movies
