Scratch

Here you will find older scratches, musings and other detritus that once were located on the front pages, but have now faded.

Filed away here to collect dust and cobwwwebs in perpetuity, links may break, facts may change and data may corrupt.

On occasion I may come down here to tidy, but for the most, I prefer to leave the past where it lies.

There Will Be Blood

Went to a screening last night of There Will Be Blood and it is pretty much as everyone else has said - a remarkable epic in which Daniel Day-Lewis gives a distinguished performance as prospecter Daniel Plainview, a fascinating character study of a man who encompasses a veritable pick and mix of characteristics. He is likable, admirable, and driven, but on the turn can be monstrous, loathsome and downright evil. At his very core, greed bubbles just under the surface much like the oil in Central California.

Paul Dano is instantly dislikeable as a slithery young priest called Eli, and between them their relationship isn't just the perennial oil v religion battle, but a visceral, near-biblical sibling enmity as the 'fight' for control of the workers.

The ending, whilst quite shocking is in keeping with the themes throughout the movie, and Day-Lewis', which is the last line of the film, was a fitting end.

Tonight we have another film. Doesn't bode well that I can't remember what its called, what its about, but I know it has Jason Statham in it.

Probably won't be comparing the two.
